Birthday and Trip to Grandpa Rick's

Sadie had her 6th birthday a few weeks ago. We had a very nice party at our house. Every kid that was able from our church attended! She loved having all her friends over for cake and games!

The kids played a game called "Balloon Stomp", musical chairs, and a game involving catching rubber ducks for prizes. The final game was the pinata. Here is Sadie taking her turn.

Sadie had a hole in her bag during the subsequent candy collection. It was pretty tragic, but Grandpa Rick helped her out.

Grandpa is also helping me learn how to shoot a bow. He gave Jonathan one of his old bows, so we're learning together. I made this arm guard. But I need to make it about a foot longer. I'm hitting my arm less and less, but there's still no knowing exactly where the string is going to thwack me.
It's nicer to practice on Dad's farm than in our backyard. I'll have to take a picture of his set up. We actually shoot down from a stairwell towards a target that looks like a deer. That way the arrows stick up out of the ground. We lose less arrows, and I don't have to worry about the roofing guys working on our neighbors house commenting whenever I have to toe through the field next door for lost arrows!

Grandpa also has some nice walking paths on his farm.

Don't worry, we didn't lose any of our long or short ^^^ arrows in the cornfield!

I really like the photo of the kids in the cornfield. Very artistic.

I wasn't that bad at shooting arrows but I am not sure I would give them enough force to actually kill something! And it would break my heart to have to kill something after already wounding it. Your brave. Makes for fun dates though :) You can release pent up frustration through the bow and then love on each other. :)

Sounds like a really fun party. Nice work, Sara! Sadie looks happy. What is the rubber duck game? I am always looking for birthday party games.

Hillary, since we had quite an age range at the party (from 3-11) we had a game that the little kids (and everyone) was guaranteed a prize. We had a bunch of prizes from the dollar store seperated into 3 baskets (with numbers 1,2, and 3 on them) then we had a bunch of rubber ducks floating in a baby pool that had numbers on their bottoms. Each kid, starting with the youngest, had to catch a duck with a small net. Whatever number was on the bottom was the basket they got to pick a prize out of. I was surprised, but even the older kids liked it. This game and the pinata were good because everyone got something. So we alternated these inbetween the games where only one or two people won.

Sadie's birthday party was very nice. You and Jonathan did a great
job of hosting it, and everyone enjoyed it a lot. Those farm photos of the kids are great. Maybe you'll have to get a tree-stand to climb into to have a downward shoot with your arrows!
