I'm learning new stuff

This is probably going to look pretty pathetic, but I am very pleased that I managed to make a short video of the kids dancing. I figured out how to speed it up and add a soundtrack. It is sideways, but that's because I was being idiotic when I recorded it. This happens a lot.

This is in preparation for a time lapse video of a painting from start to finish (your painting Alan and Jan).

Edited to add: Does anyone know why the quality became so bad when i uploaded it? Alissa?

sara,
blogger shrinks the video size to something less cumbersome when you upload (they do the same with pictures). I assume they are trying to save space on their server, so if you upload something that's big, they condense it . . . hence poorer quality than before you upload it.

Okay, this is probably painfully simple, but how do I compress video files?

Sara - actually compressing files is not that easy. Usually your movie creating software can allow you to specify how big or little you want a file, but by doing this you are subjecting yourself to inferior video quality. i'm guessing your wiser and more computer-savvy husband can help you in this area in ways I don't know as well.

I'm pretty sure Blogger will still compress it further. I think every video gets compressed, period. it's better to post as high of quality as possible and accept whatever compression blogger gives you in the end. that's what we get for a "free" service.

good luck,
mp

Awesome! I love it, Sara!!

Reading mp's comments... What about starting that YouTube site you were talking about (and showed me a sample) and then just adding a link to that on your blog so that blogger never has to compress your videos?

Hey Sarah!
I uploaded it on Youtube and the quality seemed to be a little better. Turns out I didn't need to compress it, either. So that's good to know!
Thanks for the help everyone!
